as the nRF2402G has reached end of life status, I used the replacement suggested by Nordic, the nRF24L01+. As far as I remember from comparing the datasheets when I did the above implementation, the nRF24L01+ offers more functionality. Thus the nRF2402G is simpler to control. It is also just a transmitter and lacks the reveiver part. But I never did implement anything with the nRF2402G, so I don't know if the commands are compatible with the RF24 library. Maybe it's a good start to read botch devices' data sheets and also contact the RF24 guys.

too bad it doesn't explain why I solder it back together and all I get is a huge amount of noise, with mic working.

Not sure what I have stuffed up , but I have double checked the pin outs on colours on new and they are different but have corrected for what is on the rode headphone lead....

Upon taking apart the three "completely broken" controllers, I saw the crystal and thought that might be the best shot at fixing them... Now after seeing this, I would be surprised if replacing the crystal won't work. After all, it seems to be the most fragile component in these things..

I stumbled upon this via google, so I'll post an update here for the next potential google-er. Thanks for sharing!

(As a side note: on the original xbox console, there was a common error where the system clock would never save the time and date (prompting the user on every boot to re-enter both of them). Yep...
